The XO called the meeting to order at 10:15 AM.
There were 40 members and guests in attendance.
New members and guests were introduced and
welcomed. Ed Rombauer was welcomed back. Dave mentioned that January was our Annual Meeting
and that we were looking for volunteers to serve on the Nominating
Committee Fred mentioned he was accepting 2018 and future
dues as well as deposits for our Reno race boxes.
He also mentioned that the dinner party would be held on 9 Dec at
the Red Lion in Renton and that he would send out a survey request in the
next several days. Smokey reported that several area pilots, both
members and non-members had gotten together last spring for a formation
training clinic. He expects
to conduct another in 2018. Dan reported on the success of the B-17 tour stop
at Olympia this season and on the hope that next year will see the return
to Boeing Field. Pete mentioned that there were some accommodation
issues at AWO this past year and he wanted to know what attendees desired
during their stay, as in restaurants, lounges, etc. Kent M. reported that our recent $1,000 donation to
the museum’s education program had resulted in our mention on the Wall of
Honor in the Personal Courage Wing. Kent Johnson, our featured speaker, a retired Naval
Aviator and retired airline captain, led us through his aviation career by
way of the aircraft he trained in, flew professionally, and owned and flew
in retirement. Dave gave an overview of our flying season, asked
for volunteers for the Mount Tahoma Flyover, and also asked for volunteers
for our featured speakers and KYWB presenters. Dan Barry, retired Air Force pilot and our KYWB
presenter, led us through the history of his L-3 and contrasted it with a
couple of his military rides, to include the F-105.
No-host luncheon follows and Dave invited anyone
interested to attend the board meeting. There being no further business, the meeting was
adjourned at approximately 12:15.
